Who Is the Level 3 Physical Intervention Course For?
This qualification is for experienced security professionals and trainers who want to teach physical intervention skills in the private security industry. It is a requirement if you plan to deliver the physical intervention unit of the licence-linked SIA Door Supervisor course or the Door Supervisor refresher.

Learner Entry Requirements
Teaching qualification and conflict management
You need a Level 3 Award in Education and Training (or equivalent, call for details) and the Level 3 Award in Delivering Conflict Management Training. If you do not hold them yet, you can book the Level 3 Award in Education and Training and the Level 3 Conflict Management course first, or ask about the SIA security trainer course. Contact us if you are unsure whether your qualification counts.

Course Contents
There are two units for this qualification, the BTEC Level 3 Award for Deliverers of Physical Intervention Training in the Private Security Industry. Tap a unit to see what it covers.
Unit 1: Application of Physical Intervention Skills in the Private Security Industry
- What physical intervention is, and the legal and professional implications of using it
- The risks of physical intervention, including positional asphyxia, and how to reduce them
- Non-aggressive physical skills to protect yourself and others from assault
- Non-pain standing, holding and escorting techniques, including non-restrictive and restrictive skills
- Good practice to follow after a physical intervention
Unit 2: Delivering Physical Intervention Training
- Assessing the training environment and reducing risks before a session
- Managing the learning environment safely and effectively
- Planning and delivering instruction in physical intervention skills
- Designing training scenarios, including participant briefs
- Assessing learners’ physical intervention skills and giving feedback
To continue with unbroken delivery of the physical intervention programme, trainers need to recertify before the expiry date of their approval. If approval has lapsed, the trainer can attend the 1-day recertification programme within 6 months of the expiry date. After 6 months, trainers may need to attend a 3-day course to gain re-approval.
How You Are Assessed and Certified
You must pass every part to achieve the qualification. This is how the assessment works:

On passing, you receive a nationally recognised Level 3 certificate from an awarding body regulated by Ofqual.

Is this the same as the physical intervention unit on the Door Supervisor course?
No. The door supervisor unit teaches learners to use physical intervention. The Level 3 course teaches you how to train others to do it safely, including risk assessment of the training room and assessing learners.
Can I skip Unit 1 if I already hold a door supervisor qualification?
Some learners who have already completed the same unit in another qualification may qualify for an exemption. Send us your certificate through our contact page and we will confirm before you book.
